l’ll admit it: I organise and plan almost everything. I love it – and I do mean love it! Although dating back to over a century ago on my father’s side, it must adhere to my German roots: Ordnung muss sein, ’ne!?
One thing, I know too well by now is to pack for a day trip. There are just certain items you need during such an adventure that you can’t go without. As such, the following presents you with my list of must haves travel items for a day trip:
- Travel bag
- Good walking shoes
- Sunglasses, sunscreen and an umbrella
- Cardigan and/or jacket, scarf and gloves depending on the weather – just in case
- Wallet, (passport) and keys
- Hand Sanitiser and travel tissues
- Headphones for bus or train ride – just in case
- Magazine and/or (travel) book for bus or train ride – just in case
- Camera(!) (and charger)
- Water bottle
- Snacks
- Patches/band-aids – just in case
What do you have in your travel bag? Advise is always well-received! …Sharing is caring, right!?

I always like to take a pack of cards, and a notepad and pen too! Just in case the journey takes a little longer than expected! x

What a good idea with some cards! Espcially of your phone is running out of battery. Thanks for sharing!:)

You listed everything I would have said. I must say, though, that I’m so glad for my smartphone. I remember the days when I needed to carry a book with me everywhere. Now I mostly read Kindle books, which (when I’m out and about) I just read on my phone. And it’s my camera, too . . . . and my notebook. My smart phone is a huge space saver for me compared to how my day-bags used to look.

Chapstick for your lips, wet wipes (which are good for numerous things) and what we call Neosporum, which is a cream to disinfect cuts.

In NZ it always pays to take (in addition to your listed things) your togs and a towel as you’re never far from somewhere to swim! Oh, and insect repellent too as you’re never far from sandflies!

If you’re day-tripping in the UK you can miss out the sunscreen and sunglasses. That will leave room for an emergency backup umbrella 🙂

Hi there!
I’m really enjoying reading your blog posts. However, it won’t let me comment for some reason? Your list below is fantastic although I would add parcetomol with the band aids!

Thank you very much! I quite enjoy your blig as well – especially your latest post on the Netherlands. I’m moving to Amsterdam within the month and am happy to acquire some insight into the culture before moving. So thanks for sharing your experience:)

Love this list. It’s simple and to the point. I’m a like minded traveler myself just getting settled in the blogosphere. Any advice would be so helpful! I love your format and voice! https://onweekendswewander.wordpress.com/
